FAQ

  • Do you recommend a certain camera?
To be honest I'm not a pro when it comes to the best of the best or the most current in photography devices. I started with a Canon DSLR camera that I got from Walmart and then eventually moved up to a Canon 60D that I used for many many years until finally upgrading to the Canon 6D that I just adore. I currently use the Canon 6D from the Mark series that has some more bells and whistles, but is overall about the same.
  • Do you recommend any certain lens?
The lenses you choose for a camera really depend on your desired results and subjects. For portrait photography my best lenses have been capable of 85mm and 50mm. The lenses that come in bundles with first time camera body purchases are usually just fine for learning, but will struggle to produce nice creamy backgrounds if that is something you are after, as they are not designed to shoot with a wide enough aperture (A.K.A f-stop).
  • Do you teach flash photography?
I do not at this time. I do have experience with flash photography, but not near enough that I feel confident teaching it. That said, if you have a studio with lighting set up and would like help positioning it better for your portraits and products, this is something I can help with. Basically I have a good understanding on how to create flattering light, but I'm not so savvy in the technical side of using flash.
  • Do I need a professional camera take a lesson.
No! You can literally use your cell phone if that's what you have. There is plenty of guidance I can offer that continue to be relevant as you upgrade your photo device. That said, you'll want to book with the intention of learning for the device you are using, not one you plan to get. In other words, if you'll be learning on a cell phone, we wont likely be covering how to shoot in manual mode on a digital SLR. Make sense?
  • Can I hire you to take my photos?
Though I am no longer running my photography business, Penny Claire Photography LLC, you are welcome to ask for a photoshoot. Photoshoot availability is extremely limited at this time to allow myself time to focus on family and teaching.
